Hourly Wage: $30/hr to $40/hr depending on experience

Hours of Work: 7:00am – 5:30pm Monday – Friday, weekends as needed/requested

Job Summary:

Use survey instruments to establish correct grade for construction projects with the ability to read plans. Mathematically inclined to accurately complete many functions of the job. Must work with the Site Superintendent and Foreman to solve problems and be able to communicate effectively. Work well with all operators. Must be able to do any groundwork essential to the completion of the project.

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies and procedures using the appropriate tools and equipment for the task;
  • Have an understanding of the issues involving ground disturbance and ability to work in and implement safe work practices and contribute to a safe work environment;
  • Thorough understanding of all aspects of grading for the paving industry including preparatory work, grades, drainage, job specifications, compaction and other details related to grading;
  • Achieve the correct grade by directing operators of equipment to adjust grade by moving earth, gravel and other material;
  • Capable of producing work of acceptable quality and quantity;
  • Ability to communicate promptly to the Foreman if an issue arises which needs to be resolved;
  • Measures distances from the reference points to locate boundaries of the construction site;
  • Must be able to use the laser to check the grade of precision;
  • General grade check using Simple Station GPS;
  • Verifies the curvature of graded surface using a hand level;
  • Knowledgeable with interpreting drawings and using grades for various landscape construction applications;
  • Check survey layout 2 weeks in advance;
  • Final planning and layout calculations 2 days ahead;
  • Setup transits and benchmarks, check with the closing-the-loop;
  • Work with the crew to setup the grades;
  • Daily as builts;
  • Punctual and reliable;
  • Train and mentor crews;
  • Team player who is hard-working and eager to complete a task;
  • Ability to handle heavy loads and repetitive, physically demanding tasks; and
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
